Berel is an attorney at Green, Burns & Crain’s Chicago office. As a member of GBC’s Anti-Counterfeiting and Online Enforcement group, his practice focuses primarily on brand protection and enforcing clients’ IP rights against overseas counterfeiters. Berel is also well versed in all aspects of IP law and unfair competition law more broadly, including IP litigation, various TTAB proceedings, and trademark clearance and prosecution.

Before joining GBC, Berel was a semester associate in the trademark and copyright practice group and IP litigation practice group at a large national firm. He also served two summers as a judicial extern to the Honorable Patrick J. Heneghan of the Cook County Circuit Court.

During law school, Berel was a Fellow with the Chicago IP Colloquium, served as an Associate Editor for the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property, and was a member of numerous student IP organizations. Additionally, Berel served as President of Chicago-Kent’s National Security Law Society, which works closely with the Center for National Security and Human Rights Law.

Prior to law school, Berel graduated magna cum laude from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam. He received his B.M. in music business, and concentrated his studies on the legal aspects of the music industry and cello performance.
